SpacEconomy gathered in Turku

The partners of the SpacEconomy project gathered today, Monday 25 May, in Turku to review what has been achieved during the approximately six months the project has been running and to plan the next steps.

Perhaps our most significant achievement so far is the cross-study agreement between numerous Finnish universities and educational institutions for space-related courses. Students from outside our partner universities can now not only follow the courses but also earn credits from space studies at our partner universities.

We have also received excellent visibility in the media and at conferences. Several publications are underway, and this positive trend continues.

Our next major public appearance will be on 26 June in Pori at SuomiAreena, where the main stage will be dedicated to space topics from 13:00 to 16:00. Nearby, there will also be an “Space Village” with exhibition stands from several of our partners.

In the meeting, we also planned our future activities and deeper collaboration with our partners and advisors. We discussed in particular the Winter Satellite Workshop to be held in January 2027, which will feature a substantial amount of content related to our project.

The only downside of our gathering was Turku’s weakened transport connections to the rest of Finland: many participants had to leave all too early for their return journeys.

So while we are working to improve Finland’s access to Earth orbit – and beyond – we hope that VR (Finnish Railways) will also do its part to improve train connections to and from Turku, towards Helsinki, Tampere, and Vaasa!

Thank you to our Turku partners (Titi, Marikka, Rami, Pasi and the rest) for a wonderful day!
