SPACECONOMY kicked off on 1 October 2025
Advancing Sustainable Economic Growth through Space Economy (SPACECONOMY)
The Strategic Research Council (SRC) established within the Research Council of Finland has granted on 9 September 2025 a total of 29 million euros for research supporting economic growth and the future of work. The ten consortia of projects to be funded focus on long-term research to find solutions to key societal challenges.
One of the projects is SPACECONOMY, aiming to position Finland as a forerunner in the fast-growing global space economy. The project addresses fragmentation in Finland's space ecosystem by fostering innovation, sustainability, and collaboration across sectors.
It brings together leading experts from academia, industry, and public institutions to drive economic reform, boost productivity, and improve societal welfare. Research focuses on AI-powered satellite data applications, sustainable business models, international partnerships, and responsible regulation. The project also strengthens education and public engagement to secure long-term talent and trust in space-based technologies.
Through strategic collaboration and real-world solutions, SPACECONOMY supports Finland's global competitiveness, addresses challenges like climate change and regional disparities, and contributes to sustainable growth and resilience in an era of digital and green transition.
