More cooperation between the Nordic countries
At the meeting of Nordic industry ministers on 23 October 2025, a joint declaration was adopted to deepen cooperation in the space sector. Nordic space dialogue will be further strengthened by initiating regular roundtable discussions.
Closer cooperation on space issues enhances competitiveness, promotes innovation, supports regional development, and improves security in the Nordic region. The Nordic countries already collaborate on space infrastructure development, particularly through the European Space Agency (ESA) and the EU’s space program.
Collaboration can promote the use of space services across various sectors, such as maritime transport, smart city development, and ensuring the resilience of critical infrastructure. Space-based services can also be utilized in innovation efforts and to boost the competitiveness of businesses.Initiating regular dialogue strengthens the Nordic countries’ collective voice in Europe and on international platforms. The goal is to ensure the quality and availability of space services in northern regions and to support the advancement of European capabilities within the EU and ESA, particularly concerning the Arctic and northern areas.
The Nordic roundtable space discussions provide a framework for identifying shared interests and cooperation opportunities. The regularly convened group aims to facilitate expert discussions on upcoming projects and best practices for utilizing space-based services in society. It also allows for brainstorming joint research and innovation activities and promoting shared initiatives.
