About this visualization

This page shows only 11,740 satellites and space debris objects out of roughly 25,000 such objects in total. Their position and movement across the sky are visualized from a selected location in Finland.

The center is the zenith (straight up), the outer edge is the horizon. North is at the top. Colors indicate the category. Trails show the path before and after the selected time.

GNSS means navigation satellites (GPS, Galileo, Glonass and Beidou). GEO means geostationary satellites.

With such a large number of satellites, some are likely categorized incorrectly.

In the listing, the abbreviation "R/B" appears in the names of a few objects. It means a rocket body orbiting Earth as debris.

The background sky color changes throughout the day: light blue during the day, dark blue at twilight, and black at night. Colors are calculated based on the observer location and the Sun’s elevation. Only the brightest satellites can be seen with the naked eye during twilight and at night.

Locations: Tampere, Helsinki, Turku, Vaasa, Oulu, Sodankylä and Ivalo. Tampere is the default because the SpacEconomy project is led from there. Click a button to change the observation location.

Positions are calculated with the SGP4 method from orbital data fetched from the CelesTrak database. Visibility requires an elevation of more than 10°.

This visualization is intended only to give a general overview and is not suitable for navigation or operational use.

Time zone: Europe/Helsinki (EET/EEST).
